D. Advances in membrane and module production (including recycling)

Membranes are often discussed as a resource saving technique. However the membrane and module production is demanding a lot of resources which is impacting the climate/environment.

Innovation needs to be done in terms of

• Energy efficient production process (temperatures,…)
• Resources saving production process (water, chemicals,…)

- Usage of “green” solvents

• Biodegradable polymer materials
• Usage of recycled polymer materials
• Recycling of membranes and membrane modules

By using a holistic approach including optimization of production processes of the single components membrane technology may be optimized towards climate protection.
